The Saint At Large®, the New York-based organization behind the notorious fetish-oriented Black Party®, is pleased to announce the world premiere screening of HIGH: A BLACK PARTY SYMPHONY at the CINEKINK Film Festival in New York on February 9th.

Filmed in March 2011 at RITES XXXII, HIGH captures the spectacle of an expanding definition of fetish that The Black Party® has infused into the larger gay community over the past 31 years. Underground filmmaker Bunnyz documents the unique event with an immediacy and beauty rarely achieved in nightlife documentary. Similar in style and approach to the cinematic symphonies of the 1920s (Berlin A Symphony, Ballet Mechanique, Man With A Camera), HIGH modernizes the genre with a driving score by DJ 80R15 of Berlin and its unabashed erotic content.

THE BLACK PARTY®, one of gay New York’s largest attended, most anticipated and highly promoted events, is considered the Father of all large circuit parties and with more than 4,000 attendees remains one of the biggest gay dance parties in the world. It is known and respected world wide for its notorious productions and continues to retain its reputation for cutting edge innovation and staging, superstar international DJs, world class performances and its legendary “strange live acts”.

The Black Party Trilogy
This is the third film in a series of noncommercial black Party films: Schwarzwald (2007), Black Rose Tango (2010) and HIGH (2011).  Each work was filmed entirely or in part at The Black Party itself. The parties which are traditionally held at Roseland Ballroom in late March around the vernal equinox are renown for their elaborate themes, décor and theatricality.  The individual films embody in some form the subject matter and motifs of the theme of the party in the year in which they were produced.

The films have had great success on the international film festival circuit and have exhibited in dozens of cities all around the world, from major urban centers like London, Berlin and New Dehli  to smaller cities like Topeka Kansas. As non-commercial works, film festivals serve as the primary avenue for exhibiting the works.

While the company is known largely for event production, the move into film and video production is a logical step. The company has been a pioneer of using promotional trailers to promote nightlife events – a standard practice for most parties today – and continues to set the standard of production quality and complexity for them.

The Saint At Large’s owner and executive producer, Stephen Pevner, is an indenpedent film producer with such films as In The Company of Men (1997), Nurse Betty (2000) and Ides of March (2011) to his credit.
